Systematic Preparation and Precision Cutting of Fabric Strips

Facilitated by Shabana K H

We initiated a new production cycle focused on raw material processing and pre-stitching organization. The team gathered to sort through various multi-colored fabric scraps, categorizing them by texture, weight, and color tone to ensure balanced color distribution for upcoming Kantha panels. To maintain strict design uniformity, we accurately marked and cut the selected fabrics into uniform 6 cm wide strips. Every cut strip was inspected for edge neatness and proper length alignment before being bundled, labeled, and stored for the next phase of pattern assembly.

Outcome

* Enhanced material handling and accurate fabric cutting skills.

* Observed: Participants successfully measured and cut fabric strips according to the exact 6 cm specification, reducing material waste.

Learnings

Sorting our fabrics by weight and color prior to cutting proved highly effective, making the strip preparation process significantly faster and more organized. However, maintaining precise straight lines on lighter or stretchable fabric types presented a challenge, requiring extra care and steady hand control. To refine our workflow in future sessions, we plan to thoroughly press and iron all fabric scraps before cutting, which will eliminate stubborn creases and further streamline our measurement process.
